Sri Kubera Somanatheshwarar Temple / ஸ்ரீ குபேர சோமநாதீஸ்வரர் கோயில், தரபாக்கம் / Tharapakkam, Kanchipuram District, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Sri Kubera Somanatheshwarar Temple at Tharapakkam was a part of Shiva Temples, Maha Vishnu Temple, Jain Temple and Buddhist temple at Anakaputhur, Tharapakkam, Kolapakkam and Buddhavedu on 26th December 2021.

Some of the salient features of this temple are....
The temple is facing east with a 3 tier Rajagopuram on the south side. A Muni’s image in standing posture is on the left side of the Rajagopuram entrance. Stucco images of Dwarapalakas are on the Rajagopuram.  The temple is spread in a large area and the main sanctum sanctorum is  immediately after the Rajagopuram.  Balipeedam and Rishabam are before the main sanctum sanctorum. Dwarapalakas Dindi & Mundi are at the entrance of sanctum sanctorum. In koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma and durgai.

In Praharam Nalvar, Selva Ganapati ( In koshtam Narthana Vinayagar, Chathur mukha Ganapati, Oorthuva Ganapati ), Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar ( In koshtm Murugan, Balamurugan, Arumugar, Dhandayuthapani ), Maha Ganapati, Ayyappan, Navagrahas, Bairavar, Siva Chandran, Siva Suriyan, Saptha Kannis, Nagaras and Ambal sannidhi. Ambal is in a separate sannidhi facing south. In Koshtams Vaishnavi, Maha Lakshmi and Maheswari.  The temple  also maintains a Goshala .



ARCHITECTURE
The main temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala and Ardha mandapam. A 3 anga 2 tier Vimana is on the sanctum sanctorum. The total temple was constructed with bricks and cement.The special attractions are.. the koshta images of Arumugar with 12 hands and 3 mukha Vinayagar,

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It was claimed that the original temple belongs to more than 1000 years and no evidence of antiquity is found in this temple. The temple was reconstructed during recent years and maha kumbhabhishekam was also conducted.

The temple is being managed by Rajkumar siet, who follows Jain religion.



LEGENDS
It is believed that Agasthiyar came to this place and worshiped Lord Shiva of this temple. During night, Agasthiyar stayed under this temple’s Peepal Tree. He was feeling thirsty and there was no water in the kendy. So he prayed Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva appeared before him and gave water to drink.  Hence this place is not starved out of drinking water.

It is also believed that Kubera and Soman ( Chandran ) worshiped Lord shiva and got relieved from the Curse. Hence Lord shiva is called as Sri Somanatheeswarar and a this temple is also a parihara sthalam.

Apart from regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on Maha Shivaratri, pradosham, Vinayagar Chaturthi, Skandahara Chuturthi, Ashtami Theipirai,  etc,.

TEMPLE TIMINGS
The temple will be kept opened between 07.900 hrs to 10.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 20.00 hrs.

HOW TO REACH
The Sri Kailasanathar Temple at  Tharapakkam is about 3 KM from Anakaputhur Sri Agastheeswarar Temple, 6 KM from Porur, 14 KM from Guindy and 22 KM from Chennai Central.
