Sri Kailasanathar Temple / ஸ்ரீகைலாசநாதர் கோயில், தரபாக்கம் / Tharapakkam, Chennai, District, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Sri Kailasanathar Temple at Tharapakkam was a part of Shiva Temples, Maha Vishnu Temple, Jain Temple and Buddhist temple at Anakaputhur, Tharapakkam, Kolapakkam and Buddhavedu on 26th December 2021.

Some of the salient features of this temple are...
The temple is facing west with an entrance on the west side. Balipeedam and Rishabam are after the entrance  Stucco images of Vinayagar, Lord Shiva with Parvati as Rishabaroodar and Murugan are at the top of the entrance mandapam. Vinayagar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniyar / Muthukumaraswamy are in the front Mandapam.

In prakaram, Bhairavar and Chandikeswarar. No Murtis are in deva Koshtam. Lord Shiva, Pichadanar, Maha  Vishnu and Dakshinamurthy are in the Vimanam greeva koshtam.

Ambal Sri Anandavalli is in a separate sannidhi facing south in the mukha mandapam.  Ambal is in standing posture with Abhaya and varadahastam.

ARCHITECTURE
The Temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam and Mukha mandapam.  The adhisthanam is of simple padabandha adhistanam with Jagathy and threepatta kumudam. The temple was constructed with bricks from adhisthana to Sigaram. An ekathala vesara Vimanam is over the sanctum sanctorum.

The Mukha mandapam Pillars has the crude bas reliefs of Anjaneyar, flower motifs and the ceiling has the bas relief of fishes and Snake and sun / moon representing the Solar and lunar eclipse.



HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
There is inscriptions found in this temple to prove its antiquity. Going by the iconography of Chandikeswarar, Bhairavar and Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, the temple may belongs to 12th to 13th Century Chozha Period. The front  / Mukha mandapa may belongs to 15th to 16th Century.

The Archagar pointing the fish bas reliefs and said it belongs to Pandya period. Tried to explain, but he was not in a recipient mood. He also didn’t allowed me, not even to take the photographs of the temple View. During conversation the archagar told that the temple is being managed by a big person and he is getting a salary of Rs 7000 per month through high Court, (.....? ), what is the litigation behind this is not known.

LEGENDS
Since this temple is on the banks of River Adyar, temple is considered as a mukthi sthalam and dosha parihara sthalam. Devotees worships Lord Shiva and Ambal of this temple for Child boon, to remove marriage obstacles, etc.    

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on pradosham and Maha Shivaratri days.

The temple will be kept opened between 07.00 hrs to 10.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs.
