HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
A few hundred years before there was a Shiva temple in Anna Nagar area and Shiva was called as Paleeswarar. The temple was gone in to dilapidated condition due to lack of care & patronage. The place was taken over by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board for developing Housing project. The Local people found a Shiva Lingam with large size banam from an empty plot. During 1970, when this was informed to Kanchi Mutt Periyava, he confirmed that the Shiva Lingam belongs to Sri Paleeswarar Temple and asked the people to construct a new Temple with the same Shiva Lingam, but in the name of Chandramouleeswarar.
As per Periyava’s instruction the temple was built and consecrated in 1978. Latter the parivara deities Vinayagar, Sri Kalyana Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Sivakami with Natarajar, Kala Bairavar sannidhis are added. Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted in 1996.
