Ekambareswarar Temple / Ekambaranathar Temple / Shiva Temple / ஏகாம்பரேஸ்வரர் கோயில், Minjur / மீஞ்சூர், Tiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Sri Ekambareswarar Temple at Minjur was a part of “Shiva, Maha Vishnu, Saptamatrikas and Jain Tirthankara Temples Visit”, in and around Gummidipoondi and Minjur on 13th May 2023. Due to the presence of Sri Varadarajar Temple and Ekambareswarar temples  and the celebrations are conducted similar to Kanchipuram, Minjur is called as Vada kanchi.  Also this place is on the north side of Kanchipuram.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple is facing east with a 4 tier Rajagopuram. Balipeedam, Dwajasthambam and rishabam are after the Rajagopuram. Vinayagar and Valli Devasena Subramaniam are at the entrance of the temple. Stucco images of Shiva with Parvati, Nalvar, Patanjali and Vyagrapadar are on the top of the entrance. Dwarapalakas are in front of the sanctum sanctorum. In Koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma and Durgai.

Ambal is in separate sannidhi facing South. Ambal is in standing posture with abhaya varada hastam. Ambal’s Vahana Simham is  on the south side of the outer praharam.

In the outer  praharam, Kasi Viswanathar and Visalakshi, Vasantha Mandapam, Selva Vinayagar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Bairavar and Chandikeswarar.


ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam and maha mandapam. The total temple was built with bricks and cement. A two tala dravida Vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum. Stucco images of Shiva, Dakshinamurthy, maha Vishnu and Brahma are in the tala and greeva koshtam.  



HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is claimed that the original temple, belongs to 12th to 13th century CE. But there is no evidence found to prove the same.

As per Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple's Sundara Chozha Period inscriptions, this place was called as Thon Minjur and this in Vikrama Chozha Valanattu, Gnayiru Nattu Gnayiru..... during Vikrama Chozha's reign. 

LEGENDS
As per the Legend, Ma Parvati closed the eyes of Shiva fro a fraction of a second. Due to this, the universe has standstill. Angered Shiva Cursed ma Parvati to go to Earth and worship him to get united. Ma Parvati, came to Kanchipuram, made a Shiva Linga out of sand and worshipped. When the river water gets flooded, ma Parvati embraced Shiva Linga and saved. Shiva and Parvati United after this. ( Kanchipuram Ekambareswarar Sthala puranam ).

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on Pradosham, Maha Shivaratri, etc. The Annual brahmotsavam will be conducted  on Panguni Uthram day. Temple Chariot procession will be conducted on 7th day. This Thiruvizha will coincides with Kanchipuram Ekambareswarar temple Panguni uthira Peru vizha.

TEMPLE TIMINGS
The temple will be kept opened between 07.00 hrs to 12.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 20.00 hrs.

HOW TO REACH
The temple at Minjur is about 800 meters from Minjur railway station, 10.3 KM from Ponneri, 25 KM from Gummidipoondi and 30 KM from Chennai central. 
Nearest railway station is Minjur.
