The Visit to this Mahaveer Jain Temple was a part of Thirumukkudal Temples visit scheduled on 16th & 17th November 2019. After Perunagar Sri Brahmapureeswarar Temple’s Visit, our plan was to go to Uthiramerur. On the way happened to see this Jain temple’s yellow board at Koolamandal, decided to visit this Jain temple also.
திருமுக்கூடல் கோயில்களின் மரபு நடையின் ஒரு பகுதியாக, காஞ்சிபுரம் அருகே உள்ள கூழமந்தல் / கூழம்பந்தலில் உள்ள இந்த மகாவீரர் சமண சமய கோயிலுக்கு சென்று இருந்தோம். பெருநகர் ஸ்ரீ பிரம்மபுரீஸ்வரர் கோயிலுக்குப்பிறகு உத்திரமேரூர் செல்லும் வழியே இக்கோயிலின் வழிகாட்டி பலகையைக் கண்ட உடன் சென்று பார்க்கலாமே என்று முடிவெடுத்தோம்.
This place Koolamandal was called as Vikrama Chozhapuram under Jayangonda Chozhamandalam, Kazhiyur Kottam Bakoor Nadu, during Rajendra Chozha-I. The board was not erected near the road diversion and we are confused of the route. Finally reached the Temple. The nearby house lady handed over the keys of the temple. The Temple is in the midst of the field. This Mahaveer Jain temple was constructed during the recent years. So far we had seen Mahaveer sculpture in the form of bas-reliefs, with mukkudai, samaratharis, prabhai, ashoka creepers. But here Mahaveer is in the form of idol and may belongs to 8th to 10th Century. Head was seemed to be flat without much curled hair. Mahaveer is in sitting posture to a height of about 3.5 feet and pedestal with lanchanam is not visible.
வழிகாட்டி பலகை கிளைப்பாதையின் அருகே இல்லாததால் கொஞ்சம் தடுமாற்றம் அடையச்செய்தது. ஒரு வழியாக கண்டுபிடித்து கோயிலின் அருகே இருந்த வீட்டிலிருந்து சாவியை வாங்கிக் கொண்டு கோயிலை அடைந்தோம். மகாவீரர் கோயில் வயல் வெளியின் நடுவே சமீபகாலத்தில் கட்டப்பட்டு இருந்தது. மகாவீரர் வழக்கமாக காணும் பலகைக்கல்லில் புடைசிற்பமாக அன்றி முழு சிலையாகவே இருந்தது. அதனால் சாமரதாரிகளோ அல்லது முக்குடையோ அன்றி இருந்தது. தலை கொஞ்சம் வழுக்கையாக சுருள் முடி அதிகம் இன்றி காணப்பட்டது. மகாவீரர் சிலை சுமார் 3.5 அடி உயரத்தில் அமர்ந்த நிலையில் காணப்பட்டது. கால்வரை கட்டுமானத்திர்ற்குள் மறைந்து இருந்ததால் பீடமும் லாஞ்சனம் ஏதும் இருந்ததா என்று தெரியவில்லை. இந்த மகாவீரர் பிம்பம் சுமார் 8 இல் இருந்து 10ஆம் நூற்றான்டைச் சார்ந்ததாக இருக்கலாம் என்பது ஆய்வாளர்களின் கருத்து.
