The main purpose of the visit to this temple was to see the Chozha period’s inscription Stone, which belongs to Sri Karunakara Perumal Temple of the same village. The details of this inscription and Sri Pazhandiamman are given below.

This temple is facing east with a Trishul and a Pavadairayar image stone in the form of kanthu. Vinayagars and Nagars are in the mukha mandapam. It seems that the Vinayagars are made of sand stone.
ARCHITECTURE
The complete temple was built with bricks. The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, ardha mandapam and a Mukha mandapam. The construction may be compared with Grama Deities temples. There is no super structure ie Vimanam above the sanctum sanctorum. Stucco image of Amman is on the top of the Mukha mandapam. Roof is paved with stone slabs.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
There are two stones installed on the back side of the temple. One of the inscription stone is like a pillar in square shape. On one side it has the inscriptions. The other side has the bas reliefs of Chakra and two lamps ( kuththu vilakku on both sides of the Chakra. )
The Chozha King Rajaraja-III’s 17th reign year inscription records some gift ….. to Payyanur alias Rajakesari Chaturvedi mangalam …to the god of Arulalaperumal by the King ( Madurantaka poththappi Chozha…? ) alias Gandagopaladeva…
This inscription stone pillar is called locally as Ennaikkal. When cattle are infected with deceases, a small cup of oil is buried near this pillar. After that, it is believed that the cattle will get cured. Locally this procedure is called as akandam poduthal – அகண்டம் போடுதல்..
The other stone is called Vamana kal, ie, a bas relief of Maha Vishnu in the form Vamana with umbrella. Usually this type of Vamana kal is installed to mark the boundary of the land gifted to a Maha Vishnu / Perumal Temple.
HOW TO REACH
The Village Payyanur 96 is on the Tiruporur to Mamallapuram road ( OMR ) and the Temple is about 500 meters from main road.
This temple is about 9 KM from Thiruporur, 7 KM from Mamallapuram, 18.4 KM from Kelambakkam, 46 KM from Tambaram 30 KM from Chengalpattu and 62 KM from Chennai Central.
Town buses are available from Thiruporur and Nearest Railway Station is Chengalpattu.
