HISTORY  AND MIRACLES
The Siddhar Mahan Gangadhara Navalar was born in the year 1859 at Teynampet, a part of Chennai. He was an ardent devotee of Sri Kapaleeswarar of Mylapore. He was a poet and orator too, conducted many discourses. He had composed hymns in praise of Shiva and the procession deity will start only after he completed the hymns.

He had done many miracles during his life time on this earth. One such instance is, he was forced to board a train without a ticket to attend an important discourse on the next day. During this travel the TTE ( Travel ticket examiner ) asked him to detrain in the next station, since Swamigal didn't have the Ticket. After the Siddhar Gangadhara Navalar, detrained, the train didn’t started in the next station. All the efforts are went in vain to start the engine by the Railway authorities. This was known to some of his followers, who travelled along with him and they paid money for the ticket. Mahan Gangadhara Navalar was allowed to entrain and surprisingly, the engine started with out any effort and problem.

The Jaya Vinayagar was installed by Mahan Gangadhara Navalar in the year 1890, on the place where the Jeeva Samadhi exists now. In the year 1929, Mahan Gangadhara Navalar, appealed to British Government to enter in to Jeeva samadhi. Jeeva Samadhi is that one, great Siddhars, Saints, enter in to Jeeva Samadhi / specially excavated pit after telling the exact date time to his disciples. After Mahan Gangadhara Navalar entered in to the Jeeva Samadhi on 23rd October 1929,  his disciples closed the pit and latter Samadhi was built over it.
