The visit to this Sri Sivalingeshwarar Temple at Sivalingapuram in Korattur was a part of Shiva, Vishnu and Amman Temples Visit at Padi, Korattur and Madhavaram on 06th February 2022. This Temple is on the way to Sri Kanthalingeswarar Temple from korattur Railway station. There are many Pallava / Chozha period Shiva Lingas unearthed during recent years from Padi to Korattur. This visit was aimed to see such old Shiva Temples / Shiva Lingas.

This temple is facing east with a balipeedam and Rishabam. Moolavar is on a round avudayar. Ambal Sivasankari is in the same sanctum sanctorum. Vinayagar temple is on the left side. The Sanctum sanctorum is of asbestos kottagai without any formal Temple structure.
HISTORY & INSCRIPTIONS
It was told that this Shiva Linga and Rishabam are retrieved for the well. Before the Shiva Linga retrieval, the people around the area was suffered hardship. They found comfortable after constructed a small shed where the Shiva Linga was installed. A new Ambal was also installed in the same sanctum facing south. A person named Sundaram is responsible for retrieving and installation of the Shiva Linga. He is also taking care of this temple.
LEGENDS
It is believed that this Shiva Linga was installed and worshiped by Korakka Siddhar. Since Korakkar Siddhar worshiped Lord shiva of this temple, this place was called as Korakka oor which latter gor corrupted to the present name of Korattur.

The temple is about 1 KM from Korattur Railway station, 3 KM from Thiruvalithayam Shiva Temple, 8.8 KM from Koyambedu bus terminus and 16 KM from Chennai Central Station.
