HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS.
It is believed that the original temple belongs to 8th to 9th Century constructed during Nandivarman-II’s ( 796 – 847 CE ) period. Latter, the temple received contributions from Chozhas and Vijayanagaras. The temple was reconstructed completely without leaving any inscriptions and antiquity except two Squatting lion Pillars. These two pillars are only proof that this Shiva Temple was built during Pallava Period. The Moolavar Shiva Linga, Rishabam / Idabam and Chandran may belongs to the original temple. The temple authorities or who are responsible for the reconstruction of this temple didn’t consulted any body either ASI or Tamil Nadu Archaeological Department before Reconstruction.
As per ARE Report, the 9th Century inscription records ( the begining lost ), that Tiruvenkadattan of Vangipuram a member of alum-gana of Ekadhira Chaturvedi mangalam in Pular-Kottam ( Present Puzhal ), gave a gift Sheeps / Goats for burning perpetual lamp in the temple of Sri Kailasadeva of the Village. This place was called as Ekadhira ( was the title of Pallava King Nandivarman-II ) Chathurvedi Mangalam.
Another fragmentary inscription, seems to record a sale of land by the saba of the Village.
A recent years broken inscription, records that no poojas was conducted before 1940 and Thala Vinayagar temple was in dilapidated condition. During that time one Mr Bisipadu Subbaramaiya, who belonged to Velanadu Clan Telugu vaitheega Brahmin, origin of madhavaram retired from Govt Services, renovated the temple, which includes replacing the damaged idols and conducted Jeernotharana maha kumbhabhishekam in 1940. After 1940, brahmotsavam was conducted for 5 years. The temple was managed by others from 1953, when Mr Bisipadu Subbaramaiya was fell in sick. Due to improper maintenance, the vahanas were damaged and poojas are conducted regularly. Again Mr Bisipadu Subbaramaiya took charge of the temple and maintenance was carried out since 1967 and on 2nd Feb 1969 Jothirvasatha Lingam was established.
The temple was reconstructed completely, along with 5 tier Rajagopuram and ashta bandhana maha kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 25th June 2018. Further it is proposed by the present Government HR & CE Department to spent Rs 2.22 crores towards reconstruction of the Temple Tank.
Thanks to drlsravi.blogspot Will be renovated with Rs 2.22 Crores
