SRI LAKSHMI NARAYANA PERUMAL TEMPLE, KUNNATHUR, TIRUPPUR DISTRICT, TAMIL NADU.

This is the second visit to this Kunnathur Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Temple on 14th October 2019. This  Perumal temple is a part of ancient Shiva and Amman temples of Kunnathur. During 1st visit to this Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Temple, the temple was preparing for mahasamprokshanam. As per the inscription, during 12th Century this place Kunnathur was called as Kundrathur ( குன்றத்தூர் ),which got corrupted to the present name of Kunnathur. Now Kunnathur is also called as “Air Compressor City”, which is used for drilling bore wells.

Some of the important features of this temple are ....
This temple just opposite to Sri Kundrapureeswarar Shiva Temple on the straight line facing east. The Deepasthambam is in front of the temple. The entrance arch is with stucco image of Sri Lakkshmi Narayanan. The bell tower is on the left side of the prakaram. Balipedam and Garudalwar are in front of the sanctum sanctorum. Moolavar is in sitting posture. There is no Thayar Sannadhi, since Sri Lakshmi is sitting on the left Lap of Sri Narayana Perumal.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple complex consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala and arthamandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on the Upana and adhisthanam with tripatta kumudam. The prastharam is of Kaboth style with karnakoods. The sanctum sanctorum walls has the Deva  koshtas / niches and are empty without idols.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTION:
The temple has 19 Inscriptions. The inscriptions belongs to Sundra Pandyan ( 1312 AD), Veerapandyan ( (1289AD), Hoysala King Veera Vallalan-III ( 14th Century ), Vijayanagara period16th and 17th Century inscriptions. As per the inscriptions this place was called as Kundrathur and the temple was called as Veerapandya Vinnagaram.

The Veerapandyan period inscription speaks about getting a loan of 200 panam from the treasury of this temple by the Sabha  of ( Public of the Village ) Veera Chozha valanattu Mugunthanoor also called as Vikrama Chozha Chathurvedhimangalam to rectify the dam of their village. 13 kalam paddy and 26 panam will be given to this temple as an interest. The interest has to be paid if they get yield from the field or not or if anything happens to their Village.

Veerapandyan period Kalingarayan inscription speaks about Naivedyam and the vegetables requirement for this temple and Bhattars or the Vaishnavas, the Village Velliraveli was formed with water pond and fields after transforming the forest.

Thingalur, Vijayamangalam and Kunnathur merchants had given an undertaking to this temple to give money  10 panam and 10 kalam paddy  per year for the daily naivedyam and vegetables. 

The rest of the inscriptions speaks about donation of Paddy, money,  to celebrate Srijayanthi of Perumal, burning of Sandhya deepam, perpetual lamp and naivedyam,

The temple will be kept opened between 07.00 hrs to 12.00 hrs and 18.00 hrs to 20.00 hrs.

This temple  is on the Kunnathur to Nambiyur road.
Kunnathur is on the junction of Tiruppur to Gobichettipalayam and Erode/ Perundurai to Tiruppur via Perumanallur. 
Kunnathur is 40 KM from Erode, 21 KM from Gobichettipalayam and 28 KM from Tiruppur
The nearest railway station of Tiruppur.
