13th October 2019.
The visit to this Sri Karivaradaraja Perumal Temple, at Annur was not a part of Kongu Heritage Walk scheduled on 12th and 13th October 2019. But after Sri Manneeswarar Dharshan, had been to this temple, since the temple is on the other side of the road. In Kongu region most of the Vishnu temples, the moolavar or the presiding deity is called as Karivaradarajar and this is also one of the temple. The place Annur was called as Anniyur ( அந்நியூர் ), before 12th Century.
Moolavar : Sri Karivaradaraja Perumal.
Thayar : Sridevi and Bhudevi.
Some of the important details are as follows…
The temple is facing east with Deepasthambam / Garudathoon, balipedam and Garudalwar. A 3 tier Rajagopuram is on the north side and the same was kept locked ( may be Sorgavasal, which may be opened on Vaikunda Ekadesi Day ). The temple complex consists of sanctum sanctorum, arthamandapam and a open mukha mandapam. Molavar is in standing posture with Sridevi and Bhudevi. A 2 tier Vimana is over the sanctum sanctorum. There is no idols in the koshtam/ niches. In Prakaram Chakkarathalwar, Ramanujar, Andal and Anjaneyar.
It was claimed that the temple exists since Chozha period and there is no proof for the same. Nayak period 4 short pillars are installed in front of the 3 tier Rajagopuram, from this, the temple might be existing before 16th to 17th Century Vijayanagar Nayak period. The temple was renovated during recent years and maha samprokshanam was performed.
