This Visit to this 12th to 13th Century Sri Mulasthaneshwara Temple on 22nd June 2019 was a part of ancient Shiva and Vishnu temples of Karnataka. After Hale Alur Sri Arkeswara Temple’s visit we had been to this temple. The temple is under renovation.

The temple is about 4 to 5 feet below the ground level with steps to climb down. Facing east with a stucco Nandhi arch ( under construction ) on the south side. Palipedam and nandhi are on the east side in front of the open mukamandapa The sanctum sanctorum consists of Sanctum, antarala, arthamandapa and mukamandapa. Entrance to the sanctum sanctorum is from south with a portico ( supported by two pillars ) on a raised platform.
The sanctum is with simple padmabandha adhistana. An ekathala vimana over the Sanctum. The bitti or the walls are supported by pilasters with out any koshta. The prastharam is with kabotham. The Vimana is under construction. Sandikeswara is in a separate reconstructed sannadhi facing west. A new sannadhi ( may be for Virabhadra ) is under construction facing north. Ngars are under a tree.
HISTORY:
It was claimed that the temple was constructed during Chozha period. May be 12th to 13th century. Inscriptions are not found to prove the same. But as per Karnataka govt. the temple belongs to Hoysala period.
TEMPLE TIMINGS:
The temple opening time is unpredictable.
HOW TO REACH:
The temple is 20 KM from Gundlupete, 30 KM from Chamarajanagara and 210 KM from Bengaluru.
Nearest Railway Station is Chamarajanagar.
