SRI SONACHALESWARAR TEMPLE, MULLI, MADURANTHAKAM, CHENGALPATTU DISTRICT, TAMIL NADU.

19th January 2020.
After a gap of 2 months, once again started the temples Visit from Arasar Koil to Koovathur on the banks of Palar river, near Changalpattu. This place Mulli is on the banks of river Kiliyar which starts from Maduranthakam Lake and joins with Palar River.

Some of the salient features of this temple are.
The temple is facing east. Balipedam and Nandhi are in front, under the newly built mandapa. The Moolavar Shiva Linga is in the sanctum sanctorum and Ambal is in arthamandapa. There is no koshtam and Vimana.

The Sanctum Sanctorum is on a padabandha adhisthana with tripatta kumuda. Only the adhisthana was built with stone. The wall and prastharam are built with bricks.

HISTORY & INSCRIPTIONS
The temple is believed to constructed during 10th to 11th Century CE. Chozha period inscriptions are found on the adhisthana kumuda and jagathi.  The inscriptions belongs to Kulothunga -I (1070 - 1122 CE ) and Kulothunga-II ( 1133 - 1150 CE ). Kulothunga -II, inscription starts with his meikeerthi poomeevi valara ( பூமேவி வளர.... ). The inscription speaks about gift of  with its periphery limits. 

The temple is maintained in the original form and there is no major renovation has been carried out.

Since orukala pooja is conducted the opening and closing time are un predictable.

Mulli is about 5 KM from Karunguzhi on GST Road, autos are available.
Mulli Village is about 6.6 KM from Maduranthakam, 23 KM from Chengalpattu and 90 KM from Chennai.
Nearest Railway station is Chengalpattu.
