The Visit to this Pallava period abandoned sculptures / idols at Vadakkupattu near Oragadam in Kanchipuram District was made on 5th October 2022, during the visit to the Archaeological Survey Of India ( ASI ) Excavation site at Vadakkupattu.
MAHA VISHNU
The Maha Vishnu idol was sculpted out of sand stone in sitting posture with right leg is in folded condition and left leg is in hanging. The upper hands are found broken and lower right hand may be in abhaya hastam and left hand is resting on the thigh. He is wearing yagnopaveetha and a Combodia style makudam. The idol belongs to 8th century, Pallava period.

AYYANAR
The Ayyanar is found near the second ASI Excavation site. This Ayyanar is also sculpted out of sand stone. The Ayyanar is in Rajalila asana sitting posture. His head is shown in slanted position. The Ayyanar is wearing yagnopaveetha and dress below the hip. Two devotees are shown behind Ayyanar in standing posture. A dog ( ?) is also shown. As per the experts this Ayyanar may belongs to 6th to 7th Century Pallava period.

KODAI AMMAN ( YAKSHI..?)
This Amman bas-relief stone is under a thatched roof, near the Second excavation ASI site. The Amman is in sitting posture with right leg is hanging and left leg is folded. Two lamps are on Amman’s both side and a Thorana is shown above the head. Since the thorana looks like an umbrella / Kodai, the Villagers calls this relief panel as “Kodai Amman”. As per the experts this Kodai Amman sculpture may belongs to 8th to 9th Century Pallava period.
