Sri Mangalishwarar Temple / Mangaleeswarar Temple / ஸ்ரீ மங்களீஸ்வரர் கோயில், அரும்பாக்கம் / Arumbakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Sri Mangalishwarar / Mangleshwar Temple, at Arumbakkam was a part of “Shiva and Maha Vishnu Temples Visit” in Aminjikarai, Arumbakkam, Ayanavaram and Konnur, Villivakkam” on 04th September 2022.  This is one of the Shiva Temples on the north banks of River Cooum.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…
The temple facing east under the bridge with a meta colour sheet mukha mandapam. Rishabam and balipeedam are in front of the mukha mandapam under meta colour sheet mandapam. Vinayagar and Balamurugan are on both side of the ardha mandapam. Moolavar is little short on a square avudayar in the Sanctum. Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma and Durgai are in the kostam. Ambal is in ardha mandapam facing South without separate sannidhi. 

In the praharam, Chandran, Suriyan, Angala Parameswari, Maha Lakshmi, Kala Bairavar, Navagrahas, Nagathamman and Kasi Viswanathar. 

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of Sanctum Sanctorum, antarala / ardha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on a Lotus petals base with Pada bandha adhistanam. The Adhistanam consists of jagathy, muppattai kumudam and pattika. The Bhitti Starts with vedhika. Brahma kantha pilasters and Vishnu Kantha pilasters  with kalasam, kudam, lotus petals mandi, palakai and vettu pothyal, are on the Bhitti. The prastaram consists of valapi, kapotam ( Lotus petals )and Bhoomi desam.  Nasi kudus are on the kapotam with lot of images which includes, acrobat, Bhuta faces. There is no vimanam / super structure above the sanctum sanctorum. The sanctum sanctorum was built with stone from adhistanam to Bhoomi desam. The Mukha mandapam and the meta colour sheet mandapam was built during recent years.

The Kostas are of sala type. Two munis bas reliefs are on both sides of Dakshinamurthy, in place of sanakatha munivars.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
Going by the architectural features, the temple may belongs to 15th to 16th Century Vijayanagara period. Since the Pilasters is the combination of Brahma kantha and Vishnu kantha pilasters, the temple might have been reconstructed. At-least, we must be happy, that No major modifications or structural changes were carried out in this temple.

Prakaram flooring pavement was done by Mrs Komalambal, for 16th April 2003, Chitra Pournami.


LEGENDS
Since Lord Shiva and Ambal, names are starts with Mangalam, devotees believes that if any important decisions taken or events started after praying Shiva and Ambal will get favourable results.  Devotees prays Ambal for removing marriage obstacles and child boon.

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular oru kala pooja, special poojas are conducted on Pradosham, Maha Shivaratri days and Fridays.

The temple will be kept opened between 07.00 Hrs to 10.30 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 20.00 hrs.

The Temple is on Arumbakkam  8th Main Road and about 50 meters off from EVR Road / Vellore- Chennai Road.

Town bus services are available from Thiruvottiyur, MKB Nagar, Perambur, Broad Way, Anna square, Ayanavaram etc and the bus Stop is Arumbakkam Post Office.

The temple is 150 meters from Arumbakkam Post Office bus stop, 3.8 KM from Koyambedu and 7.1 KM from Chennai Central Station.
Nearest Railway Station is Shenoy Nagar Metro about 2 KM.
