Sri Sakthipureeswarar Temple / ஸ்ரீ சக்திபுரீஸ்வரர் கோயில், சூலைமேடு / Choolaimedu, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Sakthipureeswarar Temple was a part of Shiva, Maha Vishnu, Vinayagar, Murugan Temples Visit”, in Choolaimedu, Aminjikarai, Chetpet and Choolai areas on 25th September 2022. This temple is on 2nd street of Sakthi Nagar in Choolaimedu and close to Gill Nagar bus stop.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…
The temple is facing east with a 3 tier Rajagopuram on the north side. Balipeedam and Rishabam are in front of Sanctum sanctorum. The moolavar in the sanctum is little short. Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu and Brahma are in the koshtam. Ambal is in a separate sannidhi facing east.

In praharam, Selva Vinayagar is facing North, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniyar is facing east, Anjaneyar, Durgai, Chandikeswarar, Bairavar and Navagrahas.




ARCHITECTURE
The main sanctum sanctorum is on an adhistanam elevated about 2 feet from the ground level. The total temple was built with bricks. The Vimanas are partially visible, since the praharam ceiling was constructed covering all the Vimanas.  

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
This temple was built in the year 1980 and first Samvathsara abhishekam was conducted on 26th January 1986.

From another inscription, in connection with Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal of Kanchi Mutt and with support of "Choolaimedu Hindu Samaya Samaj", Selva Vinayagar, Sri Subramaniar, Chandikeswarar, Navagrahas, Sri Durgai, Sri Anjaneyar and Sri Tripurasundari samedha Sri Sakthipureeswarar temple Ashta bandhana Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 04th February 1995.  

As per the inscription this Sri Tripurasundari Samedha Sri Sakthipureeswarar temple is being managed by the “Sri Ammaiyappan Thiruvarut Sabha”, which was established in the year 1992. 

The Rajagopuram was built and Jeernodharana ashta bandhana maha kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 05th February 1993. The required fund for the first tier was donated by the Sakthi Nagar devotees, Second tier was donated by Thanjavur K S Gopala Swamy Iyyer and Third tier was donated by Gill Nagar and Suburban devotees.
  



LEGENDS
There is no particular legend(s) associated with this Sri Sakthipureeswarar temple. In general the legend is associated with Sakthi aka ma Parvati and Dakshan. Dakshan’s daughter Dakshayani married Shri Shiva. When Dakshan was conducting a yaha, he invited all the Devas and Maharishis except Shiva. Dakshayani got angry and went to the Yaha sala. She cursed Dakshan, all Devas & Maharishis and the yaha be destroyed. Then She jumped in to the yaha kunta. This made Sri Shiva to angry and sent Veerabhadra to destroy the Yaha. Fearing to Veerabhadra all devas ran away from Yaha sala. Latter Shri Shiva restored the position of Devas, which includes Indra and blessed them.

Apart from regular poojas special poojas are conducted on Fridays, Pradosham, Maha Shivaratri, etc,.

The temple will be kept opened between 06.30 hrs to 10.30 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 20.30 hrs.

The temple is on the Sakthi Nagar 2nd street, from Nelson Manickam Road, while coming from Nungambakkam take a left turn on Shanmuganar Salai.
The temple is 1.1 KM from Nungambakkam Railway Station, 5.2 KM from Koyambedu Bus Terminus and 7.6 KM from Chennai Central Railway Station.
Nearest Railway Station is Nungambakkam.
