RUDRAKOTEESWARAR AND PASUPATHEESWARAR TEMPLE, KONERIKUPPAM, KANCHIPURAM, TAMIL NADU.

The visit to this Rudrakoteeswarar and Pasupatheeswarar Temple was a part of 2020 Maha Shivaratri Temples Visit, on 21st February 2020. After Enthaur Sri ThanThondrishwarar Temple’s Visit our next destination was to this temple at Konerikuppam.

Moolavar : Sri Rudrakoteeswarar

Some of the Salient features of this temple are.....
The temple is facing east with an entrance arch from South. A Stucco image of Shiva and Parvati as Rishabaroodar. Balipedam and Nandhi are in the mukha mandapam. Moolavar is the sanctum is with nagarabaranam. There is no images in the koshtam. In the prakaram Pasupatheeswarar ( Looks Cute with alankaram ), Vinayagar, Murugan, Sandikeswarar and Vinayagar with Nagars under a peepal tree. There is a Donor with Anjali hastam bas-relief panel is on the wall, which may belongs to Vijayanagara Nayak period.

The Temple complex consists of Sanctum Sanctorum, arthamandapam and open mukhamandapam. A Vesara Vimana is on the sanctum sanctorum. The Vinayagar and Sandikeswarar looks very Old. It was told that the temple belongs to Pallava period and reconstructed during Vijayanagara period. Renovation was carried out through public participation and Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 07th June 2015.

LEGEND:
As per the legend kodi Rudras ( one crore ) worshiped Lord Shiva of this temple.  Rudras are the followers of Lord Shiva. And Rudra is an another form of   Lord Shiva ( anger ). In Vamana purana Rudras are mentioned as  the sons of Kashyapa and Aditi.

TEMPLE TIMINGS:
Since the temple is located in a remote place and oru kaala pooja is conducted, the opening and closing is unpredictable.

The temple is about 1.3 KM from Kanchipuramn Bus Stand, 1.6 Km from Kanchipuram Railway station, 35.0 KM from Arakkonam and 65 KM from Chennai.
Nearest Railway Station is Kanchipuram and Railway Junction is Arakkonam.
