Maha Shivaratri 2020 – Kanchipuram Shiva Temples Visit- 18

The visit to this Rudrakodieswarar at Pillayar Palayam was a part of 2020 Maha Shivaratri Temples Visit, on 21st February 2020. After Ekambaranathar Temple at Thiruvaduthurai Adheenam mutt Visit, our next destination was to this temple at Pudhupalayam St, in Pillayar Palayam. This temple is just opposite to Sri Chidambareswarar Temple.

Some of the Salient features of this temple are.....
The temple is facing east with a mini single tier Rajagopuram. Balipedam and Nandhi are in the metacolur sheet mukha mandapam. There is no images in the koshtam.
The Temple complex consists of Sanctum sanctorum, arthamandapam and open metacolour sheet mukhamandapam. A Vesara Vimana is on the sanctum sanctorum. Sandikeswarar is in the prakaram. In addition to this there is a sandstone simha sculpture lying in the prakara. It was told that the temple belongs to Pallava period and reconstructed during Vijayanagara period.
As per the recent period inscription Renovation was started on 23rd March 2009 and Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 4th September 2009 at a cost of Rs 4 Lakhs. The renovation wors are carried out through Pudhupalayam St Sengunthar Caste Trust ( a sect in Mudaliyar caste – a weaving Community ).
LEGEND:
As per the legend kodi Rudras ( one crore ) worshiped Lord Shiva of this temple. Rudras are the followers of Lord Shiva and Rudra is an another form of Lord Shiva ( anger ). In Vamana purana Rudras are mentioned as the sons of Kashyapa and Aditi.
TEMPLE TIMINGS:
The temple will be kept open between 08.00 hrs to 10.00 hrs to 17.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs
HOW TO REACH:
The temple is about 2.0 KM from Kanchipuramn Bus Stand, 3.0 Km from Kanchipuram Railway station, 30.0 KM from Arakkonam and 70 KM from Chennai.
Nearest Railway Station is Kanchipuram and Railway Junction is Arakkonam.
