The visit to this Thavaleswarar Temple, on the north banks of Sarva theertha Kulam was as a part of 2020 Maha Shivaratri Temples Visit, on 21st February 2020. After Iranyeswarar Temple on the west banks of Sarva theertham / Sarva Teertham Tank / Sarva Theertam Kulam visit, our next destination was to this temple. This temple is also called as Lakulisham.
The 18th Century Sri Sivagnana Swamikal had written the sthalapurana of this temple under Yogasariyar Padalam ( யோகாசாரியர் படலம் ) in his Kanchipuranam. The original Text in Tamil goes like this...

1609 உரவுநீர்ச் சடைமுடிப் பகவனார் உமையொடும்
விரவிவாழ் இரேணுகை ஈச்சரம் விளம்பினாம்

616 முன்பொரு காலத்தங்கண் முதல்வனைத் தொழுது முந்நூற்
றைப்பதிற் றைவர் யோகா சாரிய ராகி முத்தி
தம்பத மாகக் கொண்டார் அவரெனத் தாமு மன்பின்
நம்பனைத் தத்தம் பேரால் நலத்தக நிறுவிப் போற்றி
1617 கறையணி மிடற்றுப் புத்தேள் கருணையால் உகங்கள் தோறும்
நிறைபுகழ் படைத்த யோகா சாரிய நிலமை யெய்திக்
குறைவிலா முத்தி பெற்றார் ஆங்கவர் குலவிப் போற்றும்
இறையவன் தளிகள் யார்க்கும் வீடு பேப றெளிதின் நல்கும்.
1618 வென்றிகொள் இனைய வெல்லாம் பரசிரா மேச்ச ரத்தின்
தென்றிசை தொடங்கிச் சார்வ தீர்த்தத்தின் வடபால் காறும்
ஒன்றருஞ் சுவேத லிங்க முதலில குளீசம் ஈறாத்
துன்றிடு மிவற்றுள் மேலாச் சொலப்படும் இலகு ளசீசம்.

Some of the salient features of this temple are...
The temple is facing east with an entrance 3 tier Rajagopuram on the south side. Balipedam, Nandhi under a mandapam are in front of the Mukhamandapam. Somaskandar is on the backside wall of the moolavar. Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahma and Durgai are in the koshtam.
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala arthamandapam and a mukha mandapam. A three tier nagara vimana is over the adhisthanam with salas and karnakootas. The temple is believed to be built during 8th Century Pallava period with the Pallava icon of Somaskandar.
The Annabhishekam with maha deeparathana will be conducted on Ipasi month full moon day.
LEGEND:
As per Sthalapurana, from Svedan, Svedakethu, Svedalokithan, Svedasikan, Svedachchuvan, Thanthubi to Lakulishan and the rest of Rudras wishes to become Yogasariyas by doing severe penance at Kailash. Satisfied their penance, Lord Shiva asked them to go to Kanchipuram, establish Shiva temples on their names and worship to attain Yagasariyas. Except few the rest of the temples are missing now.

The temple will be kept open between 07.00 hrs to 10.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs.

This temple is on the north banks of Sarva Theertam Kulam and Kanchipuram to Vellore Road.
About 2.4 KM from Kanchipuram Bus stand, 2.0 KM from Kanchipuram Railway Station, 27 KM from Arakkonam Railway Junction and 75 KM from Chennai Central Station.
Nearest Railway Station is Kanchipuram and Nearest Railway Junction is Arakkonam.
