The visit to this Sri Thiruvaaleeswarar Temple at Thiruvanaikoil of Uthiramerur Taluk in Kanchipuram District, was a part of Heritage Visit to Salavakkam, Porpandal and Peranakkavur, Shiva Temples, Pallava period Inscriptions and Heritage Sites on15th October 2021. Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple is facing west with an entrance mandapam on the east side. Stucco images of Lord Shiva and Parvati as Rishabaroodar, Vinayagar and Murugan are on the top of the mandapam. Balipeedam and Rishabam are in front of the temple without direct access. The entrance to the ardha mandapam is from Maha mandapam on the south side and the entrance to the Maha mandapam. In Koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahma and Durgai.
In Prakaram Vinayagar, Chandikeswarar, Nalvar, Navagrahas, Bhairavar, Suriyan and Chandran.
ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of Sanctum Sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam, Maha mandapam and a Mukha mandapam. The adhisthana is on lotus pedestal. The Adhisthana consists of Jagathi, Vrutha Kumuda and Patti. The Wall portion starts with Vedhigai and the pilasters are with square base, Nagabandham, Kalasam, Thadi, Lotus mandi, Palagai, Veerakandam and Pushba Pothyal.
The prastaram is of Kapotha style with Nasis. Flower motifs with various images decorates the Nasi koodu. Kumbhalatha / Kumbha panjaras are between the Koshtas. The Vimana stucco portion starts on the Bhoomi desam. A Stucco 2 tier Gajabirushta vimana is on the bhoomidesam. Stucco images of the Lord Shiva as Dakshinamurthy, Natarajar, Ambal worshiping Lord Shiva, Maha Vishnu and Brahma are on the Vimana.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The temple may be constructed during 13th to 14th Century and has the contributions from Pandyas, and Vijayanagaras. The Vijayanaga period inscriptions records the endowment of burning Lamps, poojas, for the same, money, lands were gifted to this temple.
Kochadaya Varmar Thiribhuvana Chakravarthikal Sri Sundarapandya period inscription records the endowment of burning Sandhi lamp for which donations were made.
As per the records the temple had 7.74 acres of dry / punjai and 7.37 hectares of punjai land and an annual income of Rs 35000.
The temple is under the control of EO of HR & CE Department and activities are maintained through the Hereditary Trustees.
LEGENDS
It is believed that this is one of the temple in which the Vanara King Vaali installed and worshiped Lord Shiva and Agasthiyar also worshiped.
POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from oru kala pooja, special poojas are conducted on Prodosham, Maha Shivaratri, Arudra darshan, Panguni Uthiram, New Year days and all important days.

The temple will be kept opened between 07.00 hrs to 10.00 Hrs and 17.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs.

The temple is 9.3 KM from Salavakkam, 10 KM from Chengalpattu Railway station, 16.7 KM from Salavakkam koot Road, 30 KM from Uthiramerur, 38.5 KM from Tambaram and 70 KM from Chennai.
Nearest Railway station is Chengalpattu.
