The visit to this Village deity Sri Maduvadi Kanni Kovil at Edamichi a part of Kavanipakkam of Uthiramerur Taluk in Kanchipuram District, was a part of Heritage Visit to Salavakkam, Porpandal and Peranakkavur, Shiva Temples, Pallava period Inscriptions and Heritage Sites on 15th October 2021. Some of the salient features of this temple are….The temple is facing east with an entrance arch on west side. Stucco images of two Amman’s ( Nagathamman / Mariamman and Annapoorani ) are on both sides of a virgin Deity with two samaratharis. The temple is only with sanctum and ekathala Vimana / Gopuram. Amman is in sitting posture with 4 hands. Dwarapalakis are at the entrance of Sanctum sanctorum. Flat Stones are worshiped around the sanctum. A balipeedam and Simham are in front of the shrine. Stucco images of Tiger, Elephant, Horse, with their attendants are on the opposite to the temple.
ARCHITECTUREThe temple consists of only Sanctum Sanctorum with an ekathala Gopuram & 3 Kalasas. The Vimanam consists of Adhisthana, Bhitti, Prastaram, greevam sigaram and Kalasam. Stucco images of Sapta Kannis and Vishnu Durgai are in the greevam, There is no images in the Koshtam. HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONSIt was told that the Amman was at the Mathaku / Sluice gate of the Edamichi Lake excavated during Pallava Period. Hence the Amman was called as Mathakadi Kanni Amman latter turned to Maduvadi Kanni Temple / Mathavadi Kanni koil.
The Sluice gate/ Mathaku was renovated during the recent years. The pallava period fragment inscription stone inscribed in Grantham is kept on the banks of the lake.
This fragment inscription mentions the construction of this eri ( Thadaka ) and Thulabaram. Hope some gift has been given Thorugh Thulabaram ( Thanks to Pon Karthikeyan )

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONSApart from regular oru kala poojas, special poojas are conducted on Fridays, Sundays. Annual festival will be conducted on the 4th Friday of the Tamil month Aadi. Animals will be sacrificed during that time.

HOW TO REACHThis temple is little far from the village on the banks of Eri.The temple is 3 KM from Edamichi,, 5 KM from salavakkam, 11 KM from Salavakkam Koot Road, 17.3 KM from Chengalpattu Railway station, 24 KM from Uthiramerur, 46 KM from Tambaram and 73 KM from Chennai.Nearest Railway station is Chengalpattu.
