During ancient times the Buddhist Kings converted the Thondai mandalam, Thondakarunyam  forests in to a habitation place and ruled. They established School in this place and Students from North India also came for study. During 3rd Century CE, HeemaSeethana King period, the Jain scholar Asulangar called the Buddhist and won over the  Debate. The Buddhist were  chased out of the Kingdom. The Jains started Jain Schools. During this period this place was called as “Aravazhithangi”. After Pallavas and Chozhas came to power they gave importance to Saivite temples

About 600 years before ie in 14th Century, a King called Veera Veera Sambuvarayar, built a Fort in this area and ruled. The Yadavaraya who came from North fought with Veera Veera Sambuvarayar.  He was worried about the diminishing of his soldiers on the first day. In the Night Kala Bhairava came in his dream and told that he will stand by his side to win over the war. Next day he won over the Yadavaraya. Since Bhairava helped to win over the war and saved his warriors, he named this place as “Azhipadaithanki”. He also built a temple for Kala Bhairavar.  This sthala Purana is also referred in Thiruvothur Sthala Purana.
