Utilizing the opportunity of attending a marriage near Orathanadu, Visited this Shiva Temple. Local people will easily guide us if we asks for Sri Visalakshi temple, than Shiva Temple.

Some of the important features of this temple are….
The temple is facing east with a 5 tier Rajagopuram, on the east and south. There is a second level 3 tier Rajagopram for Shiva Temple. Palipedam, Dwajasthambam and Nandhi are in front 2nd level Rajagopuram. The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, antarala, arthamandapam. All the mandapams are of Vavvalnethi mandapam style. Sanctum is little on an elevated level.
The sanctum consists of Upanam, Adhistanam, Kabotham, Padmam, Virutha kumudam, bitti, Pillasters, Pirastharam, yazhivari, Kabotham, Girivam, Sikaram ( Vesara Style ) and Stupi. Pillasters Consists of Square base with Nagabhandam, Thamaraikattu, Kalasam, Kumbam Paali, Plakai, Padmam, Kandam, Pothikai etc,. The Pillasters form the niches/ Deva koshtam. In Koshtam Ganapathy, Dhakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma and Durgai.
In the outer prakaram sannadhi for Mahaganapathy, Ayyanar as Iyappan, Shanmuganatha Swamty, Lingas, Gajalakshmi, Chokkanathar & Meenakshi, Saraswathi, Navagrahas, Suryan, Sani Bagavan, Natarajar, KalaBhairavar, Naalvar, Sekkizhar.
Ambal Sri Visalakshi is in a separate temple with Dwajasthambam, Palipedam and Nandhi. The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum antarala, arthamndapam and a open mukamandapa. Amman is in standing posture.
The temple was built during King Saraboji ( 1675 - 1728 AD) of Maratha. The pillars and mandapam are built with brick and lime mortar. The mandapam roof is of Vavval nethi type ( similar to bats head )

The temple will be kept opened between 08.00 hrs to 10.00 hrs.
HOW TO REACH:
This temple is about a KM from Orathanadu Bus stop ( Anna Statue).
Orathanadu is about 20 KM from Thanjavur.
All the buses from Thanjavur to Pattukottai passes through Orathanadu will stop at Bus stop.
